Comparison of the anesthesia with combination of Rosa damascena essential oil –Ketamine with Diazepam – Ketamine in male rat The anesthesia with combination of Rosa damascena essential oil –Ketamine with Diazepam – Ketamine in male rat was compared. In this experimental study 24 male rats (250-300g) randomly assigned in three groups. Rosa damascena essential oil alone (RD),Rosa damascena- Ketamine (RK) and Diazepam- Ketamine (DK)(n=8).Heart and respiratory rate, induction , duration of surgical anesthesia (SA) and walking times, Withdrawal reflexes (Pedal withdrawal, Lip and Tail pinches) were measured. Our results showed that both of groups (except RD group)induced SA, But duration of SA and waking times in PK group (0.85 %,1ml/kg,i.p)compared KD group (2.5mg/kg-80mg/kg,1ml/kg,i.p) was significantly shortest and faster respectively(P<0.05). There are no significantly differences between in heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature and lip pinch score between three groups. The tail and pedal pinch scores were significantly (P<0.05) lower in KD group compared to PK group in 35 to 55 min and 5 to 15 min between two groups respectively. In conclusion anesthesia with combination of RK appropriate for short time of anesthesia and Rosa damascena essential oil like diazepam have rapid onset, short duration of SA and faster recovery times and based on this study results and in accordance with others it seems flavonoids of Rosa damascena essential oil with GABAergic activity (especially GABAA) responsible their anesthetic propriety. But further study need to carry out for exact mechanism of their mechanism of action. Key words: Rosa damascena, essential oil, Ketamine, diazepam, GABAergic System, rat.
