Benzylpenicillin+procain benzylpenicillin induced disseminated urticaria cum oedema in a 35-year-old female patient

This report was received from a physician via Medicines and Medical Devices Agency of Serbia on 2012-Feb-14.

A 35-year-old female patient had been receiving benzylpenicillin+procain benzylpenicillin i.m. injections (tradename, dose and MAH unspecified, so the Agency forwarded this ADR report to all MAHs for benzylpenicillin+procain benzylpenicillin in Serbia) from 2011 Dec 30 till 2012 Jan 5 for purulent angina. On 2012 Jan 6 day she developed disseminated urticaria, and lips and eyelids edema.

Established diagnosis was urticaria acuta cum oedema Quincke (L50), and as a specific treatment regarding the event Lemod-solu (INN: methylprednisolone) 80 mg i.m. and Synopen (INN: chloropyramine) 1 amp. i.m. were administered. She recovered on 2012 Jan 9.

Indication for use: Purulent angina.

Suspected drugs and therapy dates: benzylpenicillin+procain benzylpenicillin, i.m. injections, from 2011-12-30 to 2012-01-05.
